In order to do this at home, in a relaxed atmosphere, we purchased this model from the British company Longevita BP-102. It is not expensive and for the opportunity to carefully monitor their health, such money is not a pity. He performs his main job, measuring blood pressure, regularly. Squeaks at the beginning and at the end of the measurement. Works fast enough, knows how to determine arrhythmia. True, I can’t check the performance of the arrhythmia indicator, thank God, the heart does not fail. Can memorize 120 measurement results and their time with date. We measure blood pressure together with my wife once or twice a week and this memory is enough for us for almost a year. It can be powered by four AA batteries (size AAA) or by AC adapter. There is no block itself in the kit, but I have a block from an old Soviet calculator, which gives the 5 volts necessary for the operation of the device. I will select and solder the right connector and the batteries will no longer be needed. It seems that I have never had problems with modern technology, but in this case I did not immediately figure out the new device. And the instructions didn't really help me. It is written in detail, sometimes even too much, but the important points are not highlighted and are actually hidden in the mass of trifles. I think that people after sixty will be even more difficult. |
The Longevita trademark is owned by the British company Network Selects and translates as "longevity". The BP-102 tonometer, like all diagnostic devices of the manufacturer, is distinguished by its functionality at an affordable price (about 25 USD).
Taking readings accurately
The device consists of a universal cuff for arm circumference 22 – 40 cm, a connecting tube and an electronic unit with dimensions of 56x100x148 mm. All this wealth conveniently folds into a compact frame bag made of grey polyester.
Half of the area of the front panel of the metre is occupied by an LCD display 85x55 cm, the rest of the space is reserved for buttons and symbols. The device captures the upper / lower blood pressure and heart rate, that is, the pulse. The error of indications is minimal, in the case of pressure it is +/— 3 mm Hg, with a pulse — 5%.

In the tonometer, you can set the memory for two users, for 60 readings for each, indicating the time and date of measurement. In addition, there is an arrhythmia sensor that lights up as a heart on the screen if the heartbeat becomes 25% faster or slower than normal sinus rhythm.
The AVG icon (from English average — average) shows the average blood pressure reading based on the results of the last three measurements, and a special scale with colour indication shows the value according to the WHO (World Health Organization) classifier. The system includes 6 steps, ranging from optimal blood pressure to very high.
Everything is intuitively clear, setting up the device and using it is not at all difficult.
Offline work
The device is powered by 4 AA batteries (regular finger-type) and supports operation from the mains via a DC6V adapter. It is not included in the kit, but it will not hurt to buy it, because the batteries, moreover, alkaline, last for a month — one and a half not very active, but daily use. In addition, a weak charge will not allow you to fully work with the device, it simply does not have enough power to pump air into the cuff. In general, if the indicator of the crossed-out battery lights up on the display, be prepared that after 5 seconds the device will turn off and require replacement of batteries.
